Whiteferry
Towards the western end of the White Lake, close by to the Barrier Mountains, the town of Whiteferry exists in an odd state. In truth two settlements, known as Northferry and Southferry, Whiteferry is divided in half by the vast body of water, and is a single town in official capacity, but has two mayors, two town halls, and similar, one on either side of the lake.
The ferry that gives the town its name is nothing more than a large, wooden platform, attached to a guide rope that stretches across the water, and is pulled back and forth by a golem working a stile on either end. The ferry takes nearly two hours to make each trip across the lake, and works continually during daylight hours every single day; it is old and run down, but predates the town itself by a considerable margin - being the first means of safely and reliably crossing the lake ever constructed.
The relatively recent construction of a Teleportation Circle network has caused the twin towns to fall from prominence somewhat, but it maintains use as a thoroughfare for all people and goods who, for whatever reason, cannot or will not use magics to cross the lake.
