The Laws of Magic
Enforced by Arkis's Grand Academy of the Arcane, the Laws of Magic are divided into Greater Laws and Lesser Laws. The punishment for breaking the Laws is set, and can only be overturned with a five-sixths vote from the Council of Masters.
The Greater Laws
The Greater Laws number only three, and all have the sentence of Unnaming if you have broken them.
The Greater Law Against Necromancy forbids using magic to reach through the veil of death - this includes reviving or resurrecting the dead as well as animating corpses.
The Greater Law Against Chronomancy forbids using magic to manipulate the sands of time - this includes any arcana that speeds up, slows down, reverses, or permits travel through time.
The Greater Law Against Animancy forbids using magic that manipulates the soul - this includes souls of the living or dead, natural or artificial.
The Lesser Laws
There are also Lesser Laws, which tend to carry weaker punishments, often imprisonment, but can still go up to Unnaming should circumstances call for it.
The Lesser Law Against Apostasy forbids the practice of the arcane without possession of an Icon - people who break it are known as Apostates.
The Lesser Law Against Interference forbids any act that may be construed as obstructing or interfering with one of the Seekers in the course of their duties.
The Lesser Law Against Substances forbids possession of any of a list of objects or materials that are in some way magically hazardous or inimical to life, magic, law, or order - such as Weaveweed, Beholder blood, or magic items that themselves break the Greater Laws.
