The Bargain With The Nine

After a long time of being bedeviled and beguiled by the whims of various deities - ships sunk by Umberlee, fields burned by Talos, blizzards blown in from Auril, and suchlike - the people of Whitelake sought succour. Reaching out to a small pantheon of nine gods who had disparate and scattered portfolios, the peoples of Whitelake agreed to worship them and fuel their divine powers, in exchange for protection from the "fickle gods" - and so, The Nine Gods created a great magical working known as the Divine Aegis.
