New Coastview
The capital city of The Greater Administrature of Coastview, located on the southern edge of the Boundless Desert.
Has a history of war with Gran Solhom, and its predecessor Solhom.
The current state of the city of Coastview is informed by disaster and destruction; as part of the events of the the Transition of Magic, there was an time of mass destruction and bloodshed in the city, and most of its infrastructure was destroyed as the leaders of its political parties and gangs were all slain in various circumstances by rivals taking advantage of the Transition.
Built from the ruins of this chaos, the city of Coastview - properly New Coastview - is broadly divided into factions, most of which have a veneer of a respectable business masking a background of illegality and crime, founded by the remnants of the gangs of Old Coastview.
The factions broadly are:
The New Coastview Party, headed by Ihan; The only faction with no crime syndicate backing it, the New Coastview Party is primarily composed of displaced Sun Elves after the destruction of the city of Solhom, and proclaims that the city does not need to rely on illegal measures in order to survive. When the Party is in a position of relative political power, their priorities are always to tighten the law and crack down on corruption.
The Brotherhood of the Staff and Leaf, headed by Head Brother Samiel; Ostensibly a charity for the poor, needy, and homeless, the Brotherhood is in reality a crime syndicate based on the sale and distribution of highly addictive drugs. Their political interests are mainly aligned with increasing the adventurer population of Coastview.
Shining Star Shipping, headed by Coordinator Skael; Known to the general populace as a shipping company, in charge of the Teleportation Circle Hub of Coastview, Shining Star Shipping is in actuality a front for a circle of thieves, burglars, and fences, specialising in the retrieval of one-of-a-kind items from private collections. Their political interests are mainly driven by a desire to increase trade and commerce between Coastview and its neighbours.
The Cult of the Swirled Tails, headed by First Adherent Vixa; Presenting themself as an alternative to the orthodox religion that is the Church of the Nine Gods, the Cult worships the kitsune-goddess Kiyomi, Queen of Hell - their public face presents as an unassuming and law-abiding religious sect, but this veneer is even thinner than most of the Coastview factions; a very light scratch will reveal a community that propagates apostasy, illegal magics, and diabolic pacts. While the Cult takes interest in political matters far less than other factions, on the rare occasion that they do, their position is one of Coastview becoming more insular, closing connections with other nations and striving to be more self-sufficient.
The Regolith Legion, headed by Legion-General Aenan; In theory a militia for the defense of Coastview in extremis, in reality the Legion is little more than a group of strongarms, footpads, and blades for hire, thugs that serve coin and the highest bidder - except for Sun Elves, against whom their leader holds a grudge for their historical warring with Old Coastview, to the point where any Legionnaire who accepts a job from a Sun Elf is generally found floating face-down in the harbour. Politically speaking, the Legion is interested in expanding the borders of Coastview's influence, but has no interest in building ties with other nations.
The Masked Syndicate, led by The Masked; The only family with no front of a legal business, the Masked Syndicate is the only group that claims their leadership is continuous from Old Coastview - of course, given that the leader of the Syndicate, known only as the Masked, is permanently using a mythal to shroud their identity, such a thing is impossible to determine. In New Coastview, the Syndicate prefers to stay in the background rather than directly exerting influence on politics, instead having fingers and connections in all of the other factions to various degrees, although each faction claims that they are pure from the Syndicate's hand.
